Latino organizations protest

Just as expected, the Spanish rights organizations has demanded a discontinuance of raids by ICE on American businesses that hire illegal aliens or ‘undocumented workers”. “We protest the inhumane way that these raids were being done,” Rosales said. “The whole issue is very traumatizing. It can have lifetime psychological effects on the children and the whole family. We would like a moratorium on (the raids) until we can come up with comprehensive immigration reform.” Reported the San Antonio Press “letters sent this week to the Bush administration by the country’s four leading Hispanic advocacy organizations that questioned the effectiveness of worksite enforcement actions.” NATIONAL LATINO ORGANIZATIONS CALL FOR MORATORIUM ON IMMIGRATION RAIDS with a letter to Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff to set a moratorium on massive worksite raids and condemned the timing and potential civil rights violations of the recent multi-state immigration raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.”

These are the four main Latino, Mexican, or Spanish organizations in this country working specifically for the rights of Spanish speaking Americans (citizens), and they also fight the battle of the illegal migratory advances into the USA. claiming civil rights abuses.

League of United Latin American Citizens

“With approximately 115,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, LULAC is the largest and oldest Hispanic Organization in the United States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide.”

The Mexican American Legal Defense Fund

“The Mission is to foster sound public policies, laws and programs to safeguard the civil rights of the 40 million Latinos living in the United States and to empower the Latino community to fully participate in our society.” “Through the years, MALDEF has been at the forefront of civil rights litigation, setting precedent in many cases and establishing new systems to elect officials, hire and promote employees, and educate children.”

The National Council of La Raza

La Raza’s politics are at the far left of the political spectrum. Its Policy Analysis Center lobbies for affirmative action, bilingual education, stricter hate crimes laws, mass immigration, and amnesty for illegal aliens.”

National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO)

Latinos constituting the second largest population group in the nation, we are poised to continue shaping the future of our country.”

A brief look at these links did not mention that there is a difference between a Spanish speaking American citizen and a Spanish speaking illegal alien. I did not notice one reference to the fact that the purpose of the raids was to apprehend people who were breaking the laws of the country.

It was not a raid targeting Mexican aliens, although most of the illegals apprehended were Mexican. Folks, this is a slippery slope in our current American politically correct society. Any action taken nowadays that appears to pick on, to highlight, to embarrass, to humiliate, to arrest, to isolate just one person of a minority association and then the cries come from the entire minority community that the act was racially motivated, in effect, against the entire minority.

Muslims are using the same tactics, as the incident with the six immans removed from an airliner. The cry was “… flying while Muslim”. You’ve heard a similar phrase used “….driving while black”. I’ve recently heard of one of the most outrageous “while” quotes.

It was sarcastically made to emphasize the stupidity of politically correct anti-profiling allegations, but yet there was a ring of truth to it, “…searched while a grandmother”, referring to TSA carry on baggage search agents and their propensity to search little old ladies while letting middle eastern young men go through without a glance. Can this stupidity end? And how?

There will be no winners in this struggle pitting one group against another, as these Hispanic organizations are making allegations. There will be no winners in this struggle perpetuated by the likes of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton. There will be no winners in this struggle of Muslim allegations of religious intimidations. There will be no winners in the struggle of atheists against anything religious, especially Christian symbols appearing anywhere in the public square. Only losers. If the game does not provide for a definite winner, then both sides lose. The problem is we have forgotten who the winner should be, thinking along the lines of the two opposing forces and that we must choose one or the other. The Hispanics say to each other: you’re either with us or against us. The blacks say that to oppose the special treatments granted by affirmative action you’re acting white while black. The Muslims say that to oppose these Islamic brothers in any way indicates you are no better than an infidel.

Hey everybody listen up. You are all wrong.

No, the winner in all these situations should be the American tradition of respect for the rule of law, the bill of rights and the constitution of these United States. “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by the creator with certain inalienable rights, that of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. When most Americans desire to close the borders to illegal crossings, they want the rule of law to rule. When most Americans desire equal rights in employment and educational opportunities, they want the rule of law to rule. When most Americans desire equal religious freedom of expression they desire to see the rule of law to rule. Generalizations yes, and I also know that there are lawyers out there who will find this law and that law, this court decision and that court decision to contradict everything I’ve written. But I don’t care. The Bill of Rights is a generalization too. And that is part of the problem, we don’t pay enough attention to the generalizations that have ruled this country for over 200 years. This country has been split, and that is no generalization.

Ladies and gentlemen, when certain groups, certain organizations, certain leaders and the media put aside the concentrated mentality of readiness to pound, looking for any “perceived” injustices, then the country can make huge steps forward to heal the division that easily besets us.
