(8/16) Cubbies whip up on the reds 12 – 4 after loosing four in a row and hopefully this will be the ignition needed to hold back the red hot Cardinals coming to town for four games. Lots of highlights, but for LHP Carmen Pignatiello, it will be a day to remember as his first major league appearance, being called up from AAA Iowa, striking out one in the eighth as his family watched. Several good TV shots of the family showed their excitement. Dad will take the kid out for a good dinner tonight.

(8/11) The Cubs remain at 1/2 game out of first behind the Brewers. Cubs have won last 2 against the rockies with 2 more to play in the series before moving on to the Reds. But the favorite losers lost 3 to the Astros, while the Brewers lost 3 to Rockies. The brewers have lost Graffanino, the veteran infielder, for the season.

(8/1) The Brewers lost and the Cubs won which put them a percentage point over the Brewers, but really just tied for The Cubs won tonight in the bottom of the ninth. 1st. Matt Murton doubled to start the inning, bases get loaded with one out and Cliff Floyd sent in as pinch hitter. Wild pitch, Murton scores, game over.

(7/29) The favorite losers won two out of three over the Cards and over the Reds. Today Zambrano became the first pitcher to win 14 games this year. Now just one game behind Milwaukee. Go Cubbies Go. Next up, is four games with the Phillies in the friendly confines overlooking the big lake.

Another by Theriot in the 4th made it 7-6 and they hold on for the 3 game sweep. Barry and the Giants come to town tomorrow. Kudos, as the Cubs have won 15 of the last 18 games.

Whipped up on the Astros again today 9-3. The Cubs, who began the day 3 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central, have won 14 of their last 18 games and are now 24-12 since June 3, the best record in the National League. The Cubs beat the Nationals tonight to take 3 out of 4, and may I add that George W. Bush was in attendance at the game there in the nations capital. This puts the Cubs at two games over 500 and now 4 1/2 behind Milwaukee. Gaining… The all-star break coming this week-end, and over history for the Cubs this break divided the season results. Winning going into the break, loosing coming off the break. Is this the year to tear up the history books?

Tonight the Cubs beat the Washington Nationals 7 to 2. The team has won 9 of the last 10 games and now is over the 500 mark getting close to the half way point. Last year the Cubs were 30 – 51 at this point. What a difference a year makes, and you could say the same for the Cardinals.

Today, the 29th of June, the Cubs won a squeaker in the bottom of the ninth. The Cubs were behind the entire game as the Brewers unloaded in the top of the first with 5 runs, three of them by an out of the park blast. Bottom of the ninth, the cubs down 5 to 3. Derek Lee hit an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 5 to 4. Two outs. And enter Ramirez and bang, out of the park scoring Fontenot and the Cubs win 6 to 4. 7 wins in a row.

To the Cubs fans and the team, it’s like a major win, it’s like the conservative base defeating the amnesty bill, it’s like the London terrorist attack being stopped. Remember now, I said to the Cubs fans and the team, it’s a major happening. When these fans get home and turn on their news, they’ll see the news about London and have a double celebration.

Sunday, the 1st day of July. the Cubs beat the Brewers again 5 to 1 to make it 2 out of 3 in the series. But they did take a loss yesterday 13 – 4 as the combination of the Cubs pitchers having an off day, while the Brewers offense had an on day.
